The great poet, Henry David Thoreau, once said, “The world is but a canvas to the imagination.” Sunway City Ipoh stands today, as a living, growing testament to the imagination of Sunway Group’s founder and chairman, Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, who has defied the conventional, to create two incredible townships out of barren sites.

A decade ago, the 1,350-acre site on which Sunway City Ipoh now stands, was an unproductive land, with a portion of it dotted by squatters in ramshackle abodes. The government of Perak then had invited Sunway Group to develop the site to support the ambitions of the Eastern Development Corridor, which was mapped out to revive the declining economy of the state. By then, Sunway Group was already well-known as a master community developer, famed for the transformation of a derelict tin-mine into the thriving community of Sunway Resort City in the Klang Valley.

Today, Sunway City Ipoh with a gross development value of RM2 billion is a veritable masterpiece, an epitome of the power of vision and imagination and an embodiment of conservation and preservation. It is a resplendent sanctuary, cradled within sublime nature. Surrounded by 260-million-year-old limestone hills, and tropical rainforests, the township has become an engine of growth for the Northern State as it was originally intended.

As Perak’s largest integrated township, Sunway City Ipoh is now 65% complete and consists of six synergistic components. About 1,000 families are now living in beautifully crafted homes that have unobstructed views of the spectacular surroundings. The natural hotsprings are encircled with a magnificent structure of ancient ruins which sets up one of the region’s best-themed attractions, the Lost World of Tambun. Sunway City Ipoh anchored by Lost World of Tambun, records an astounding 1.5 million visitations yearly. The theme park is also well complemented with the 174-room Lost World Hotel, which is similarly themed.

The Lost World Theme Park offers families an enthralling experience which is made up of seven uniquely-themed zones, namely the Water Park with the country’s longest adventure river, the Amusement Park with a wide range of exciting rides, the Tin Valley where visitors can relive the experience of tin mining – an integral part of the State’s socio-economic history. The Tiger Valley within the Park offers visitors a chance to view rare Siberian Tigers, while the Petting Zoo is a charming educational experience for children, with its collection of free-roaming animals. For adrenaline-seekers, the Adventure Park offers a trek through 700-metre-long limestone tunnels, and a rock-climbing obstacle course.

Adjacent to the Park, Sunway Group has developed one of the most eco-luxurious retreats in world, The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat, which has won a coveted FIABCI Prix d’Excellence, the Oscar-award for the international real estate industry.

The Banjaran consists of 25 exclusive villas with butler service offering the ultimate getaway for hassled urbanites. With The Banjaran, Sunway Group had ingeniously incorporated the healing properties inherent within its natural surroundings into its rejuvenating offerings. The Banjaran’s exclusive spa and wellness centre offers more than 40 Asian holistic treatments and therapies and a range of unique wellness features and facilities.

The uniqueness of The Banjaran is amplified by a one-of-its kind private wine cellar, which is built into a cave. Visitors to Jeff’s Cellar are treated to a singular experience – a rare opportunity to indulge in fine organic wines, bathed in ethereal light next to the murmur of underground streams.

Another exclusive experience within The Banjaran would be the Crystal Cave and Meditation Cave in which the interiors are set aglow with amethyst and quartz crystals that facilitate metaphysical healing.

Close by, a Giant Hypermarket offers conveniences to the city’s residents and visitors alongside 186 commercial units. The Sunway Ipoh Street offers the best of Ipoh’s famous street fares while Sunway College offers outstanding education programmes. Currently, around 1,000 students pursue quality education within its premises.

Since its inception in 1996, Sunway City Ipoh has bagged more than 20 prestigious rewards. In the next three years, the Sunway Group has mapped out another phase of expansion with the gross development value of RM500 million. The blueprint includes an extension to The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat, 1,000 serviced apartments with in-house spa facilities, 1,000 units of Hilltop Homes, a shopping mall and an international designer brand outlet mall.

Sunway Resort City in Selangor is an RM11 billion GDV township with a population of 200,000 and is served by Malaysia’s first elevated Bus Rapid Transit system (BRT-Sunway Line).
