The shoe-making industry was at its prime during World War II. Back then Rukun Juara Sdn. Bhd.’s forerunner was a tiny shoe-making store that was later inherited by the Yip brothers after the war until 1990 when Rukun Juara Sdn. Bhd. was established and officially ventured into shoe marketing business. The company started as a small manufacturer dealing mainly in men’s sandals under its own brand Scud.
The Asian financial crisis in 1997 dealt a severe blow on the economy of many regional countries. Having experienced the hard times of economic recession, Rukun Juara repositioned its strategy and was steered towards cooperation with established international brands in the likes of Diadora, Dunlop and Ador. Rukun Juara introduced these brands into the local market, and made appropriate adaptations to the products to be better suited to the demands of local consumers at more affordable prices.
Rukun Juara started from a wholesale business before expanding its marketing network to major malls and supermarkets in the country while also diversifying its portfolio to the manufacture and marketing of women’s leisure footwear, Ador sportswear, etc. In addition, Rukun Juara also involves in contract processing services as well as OEM production, with products distributed beyond the country to Brunei and Singapore, among others. Today, Rukun Juara has emerged as a leading self-invented and world-renouned brand name.
