In 1949, a young man left China for Malaya to hone his entrepreneurial skills. His first stop was a startup grocery store in Rawang, Selangor. Once he succeeded, he ventured to Ipoh to sell traditional desserts which evolved into a rock sugar business in 1965. He named this enterprise Chek Hup.
From manufacturing all types of rock sugar, Chek Hup expanded into coffee in 2000. The founder’s passion for produce at its most natural birthed Chek Hup’s signature Ipoh White Coffee. By merging local culture and flavour with the golden ratio of freshly roasted Arabica and Robusta coffee beans, Mr Tan Soo Hor pioneered Ipoh White Coffee’s unique taste and aroma, featuring rock sugar as an ingredient.
Besides featuring its own brand of healthier, lower GI rock sugar, every cup of Chek Hup Ipoh White Coffee is coffee at its most natural as no artificial flavouring is used.
The brand recently launched its concept of microground coffee in its Classic Ipoh White Coffee. Finely ground dark roasted, aromatic Microground ™ Colombian beans give this coffee a finer taste. It is complemented with a rich creamer and a hint of Chek Hup rock sugar sweetness.
To mark its 50th Anniversary, themed “Looking Forward To Giving Back”, ChekHup has embarked on a Community Reading Program for students from low-income communities. In partnership with Yayasan Generasi Gemilang, the shared belief is transforming lives through education which will be the cornerstone of Chek Hup’s CSR commitment in the years to come.
